Hello all,
ok what a mental week it's been, plently high's n low's.
My last posts mentioned the i had turbo troubles, oil was pissing out of it in all directions, Anyway's burn_your_money and rubadub pointed me to other solutions. Aidan was selling a turbo and kindly agreed to meet me halfway between mine and his, We meet up, did the deal and job done.
MASSIVE THANKS TO AIDAN!
i got the turbo and semi stripped it as i needed to reindex it and clean it/general checkover.Golf v t25 engine sit differently. 1 upright other at 51 deg.
the weird thing about the turbo its a K14 just same as the others i have but its a dual cooled one  , i've never seen that on a kkk k14 before, normally just Garrets, well at least here in the uk!. So I had to plumb in the water works side of the turbo which was some added grief but nothing to painful.
So far the turbo has been in my bus for 3 days and i have covered about 50 miles not massive but the turbo and engine both seem fine so far, considdering the tubro has 140k on it, its doing fine.
Bearing in mind its bugjam(massive VW SHO) in 2 weeks so i dont wanna rock the boat to much to miss that show, so between now and then i'm just getting used to being TD'D and delaying turning the boost up/gov mods etc...
Current set up:
1600 GOLF GTD engine, fully rebuilt
intercooler NOT fitted yet!
external cooler not fitted yet!
manifold bov disabled
standard boost set, getting 9psi tho!
EGT fitted
2.25 exhaust end to end.
big Arse air firter(cone type)
fuel turned up.
Gov mod Not yet! next on list!
initial tests were ok but once, i tweaked the tickover and fuel screw, its so much better. So far i'm really chuffed as the intercooler and gov mod are not fitted/preformed. so its just going to get quicker once those jobs are done.
out on the road.
i couldn't wait to take the drive to a spot where i always get caught by a hill on outward journey and an even bigger one on the return.
considding the my bus size and weight and aerodynamics of a house brick. the lag is minimal. both hills became distances in my rear view mirror nice and quick, and even managed to smoke a hot hatch whilst going up the second hill. Cool!
well worth the stress! if anyone out there is feeling like their project is never going to happen or its to much stress. just keep going it will be worth it in the end!
regards
Stu (Hillshy) not so much now!
