i just posted on wondering how much fuel economy is affected in winter time since mine has dropped drastically. But i was wondering how cold you can go for starting and also how long it takes to warm up. Ive noticed mine take a while to warm up (i expect longer than a gasser). It warms up nicely on the highways but cools off quick at idle.
I just drive off as soon as the engine will let me but I try not to wind out the engine. Diesels don't produce a whole lot of heat at idle. The MTO truck handbook even says to do this, while it says to let gassers warm up before driving.

i think the main thing is to let your oil heat up. This takes about a minute or two. Gotta make sure those parts are lubricated well! If its turbo then dont push it... wait until engine is warm before you let it spool up and your turbo will last you a long time
