r134 a/c temps
« on: June 20, 2007, 04:25:06 pm »
I just converted my volvo 740td to r134....I put my Fluke temp sensor in a register and I'm getting approx 45F for a low.  Is this about right for R134?   I remember hearing years ago that R134 isn't as efficient as R12.

that is pretty cold!  approx 7C... I just helped a buddy of mine get rid of 134a and switch over to the hydrocarbon refrigerant. he is getting approx 10C, but that could also be the temperature controller...

his charge is also low... first i put a can in, and it seemed to get cool, but not too cool, then it started getting hotter (17C didnt measure before temps)... slow leak :(  so then install the duracool system sealer and voila! 10.3C or so.  ambient outside temp was approx 18C though, so it wasn't anything spectacular... but still better than no a/c!  we'll see later when he gets a full charge :)

update.  On the 2nd setting for the blower fan, we were able to get 4C out of the vents.  on the highest setting, we were able to get approx 11C.  Ambient outside air temp = approx 24C

so far that leak stopper stuff is actually working

if the system actually holds a charge, we may dump the gas and re-charge it with 1.85 cans of the HC-12a (not sure how exactly we will measure out 1.85 cans...)
