Does the GTd run an in radiator temp sensor which controlls the fan? If so then mine is humped!

yep on the radiator. lower driver's side. but check to see if the fan actually comes on when you hook it direct to the battery (don't leave it for too long though... as it is the high speed)

the way i tested mine was to pull the plug off the switch and bridge the plug terminals with some wire, bypassing the switch. Once bridged if it comes on= broken switch, if it doesnt = broken wire somewhere.

or the harness is corroded... which does usually happen! best bet is to get some of that dielectric grease

where is the switch on my 1.6 n/a? the fan hasn't run since i got it, and the fuses are fine. 1986 golf

regardless, it is very simple to find... just look for the wire harness coming from the radiator.

Montana, I have an old 8v gti rad I think, it drove home 100 miles or so with the temp gauge sat on half way. If I can find it i'll stick the switch in with the alternator

I rigged up a temporary switch on the dash to turn the fan on when i want to - so as the temp starts to come up to the first notch then i just flick the switch and it doesnt go any higher!
