Its not a chip its a tuning box, crude way of getting more fuel in but it works.
For roughly the same money you could get a proper custom chip from Aligator, which is what i'll be doing

I guess I should mention I had one of these on my first tdi, had an adjustable screw on it. On the max setting it flew compared to stock, but smoked a lot.
I also never had any problems with it and it was installed in maybe 2 minutes, so I have no real reason not to recommend it to be fair.

I was just looking at upsolute.com, and while there is no shop near me to do the work, I will be on vacation next month very close to one of their locations..... so how difficult is it to remove the ECU and take it with me on the plane? :D

(I dont even have the car yet, am I gettin a little ahead of myself? LOL)

Which car is it? If its the same as here, the mk3 has chips that easily unplug from the sockets, the early mk4s have chips that have to be desoldered, and the later mk4s have to be flashed through the OBD port.

It is easy to remove the ecu, its under the windscreen wiper panel on the mk3

its a 2000 New Beetle, from what info I've found I believe it needs to be soldered

btw I'm looking for some extra power but mainly increased economy. 50mpg is fantastic but 60 would be even better! I drive hundreds of miles a day, increasing to around 500 next month, so every little bit counts

500 miles a day????

I think you need something with propellers and wings on it instead of 4 tires and a diesel!  :P
