The 1.6D OEM and Wix/Carquest filters go for 35CDN.  Both mine and my brothers cars had fuel filters with somewhere around 200K km on them.  I have receipts for absolutely everything except the fuel filter.   From now on I'll be changing it something like once a year or 50K, or whenever I get nervous.  That is, unless I start running biodiesel.  Then I'll buy a box of them.

Cheers, Steve

you might want to 'downgrade' to a pre '85 spin on Fuel filter, they are ~$7USD,  I use them on both my 1.9's

i downgraded on my 1.9 also, a $7 filter is more appealing than the $35 one.

get a 'spin-on' housing bracket off a junker '76 - 84, bolt it to your strut tower, screw on a filter element and go

If you have a filter 'warmer' line, just bypass and send to tank return

The warmer is a good idea, but not necessary

The Bosch part# is  0 450 906 172 and there are two other numbers on the box N 6172 and 74003.Some people here would probably know what years or application this filter was used,Its probably going to cost less do the same job and cause you less grief. This filter is not a thread on its shorter than the 1.9 one but it fits in the same bracket so the only change is the no return feature so you take the plastic valve/connector out and connect the two hoses thats all. However If there is no issues with the plastic fitting then just stick with the 1.9 filter. That updated fitting cost $50+  :? from the stealership and I'm not sure if anyone else makes them :?: so the old fitler is a welcome changeover. If and when you do find the filter buy a couple as they may not be available much longer I don't know.I have a couple at my work so some other places must have some collecting dust on the shelf also
