Hi Kudagra,
cheers for the info/link, There's some sort of wax stat and spring thing going on inside and i believe once a certain temp is reached then the spring/wax stat may collapse/open and then oil flows into the external oil cooler, my Golf Haynes manual(our equivalent to bentley) shows a picture but doesn't explain how it works inside.
i will try to explain the internals. Oil flow inside the oil housing both flow and return all seem to merge into the central bore where a sprung loaded piston moves forward and back as oil temp changes. if the piston moves in one direction it keeps oil in the cooler housing, if the piston moves the opposite direction then, as it moves the outlet route to the external oil cooler is opened and therefore flows externally to the cooler. :?
its something like that, not sure what temp its set to flow externally
and i dont really understand the wax stat on the front of the piston.
So really, i was just hoping that some on here would pipe in and state the in's and out's of it.
again cheers for the link I will sign up to the site and check it out
