can i do this? i should be able to just tap them in right?

i got a blown aba block that i can yank the quirters out of... then just throw in some oversized TD pistons and i should be good to go :wink:

should be able to, I would just take in both blocks to the machine shop so that they can get the proper location in the block. its pretty much what VW did on all of the turbo blocks, and I could be wrong but I think that the only difference between turbo and non turbo blocks are in fact the oil squirters.

I've heard it said many times that oil squirters can be added to a block but I don't know that anyone has come back and reported success or failure... so please, if you do this, let us know how it works.

I´ve done it. We machined squirter places flat and drilled holes. Works fine. I used TD squirters.

I am considering doing this becuase I just put the older turbo on an NA engine, but the NA pistons don't have the notches cut out of the skirts. I was just thinking of drilling and tapping for a pipe thread/compression fitting and small tubing that I could bend to shape and then crush the end down for the desired squirt.
What do you think?

no kidding? I never looked at one closely. I have a TD block, I will take one off and look at it tomorrow. The only reason I didn't think they would work on a Naturally Aspirated block, is that the Turbo pistons have a notch cut out on the skirt for them. Maybe I can just modify them and extend the little tubes and make them more of a "U" shape.
I would have nver thought they had little valves in them. Thanks!

i found an old turbo diesel pdf of a vag manual. it has the reasoning of why VW/AUDI added turbochargers to their diesel engines.

no clue why they put 1.5 bar from 3 bar...

by chance, does anyone know what the idle oil pressure should be at? i'm getting 15 psi with the bypass filter and the buzzer isn't coming on... i should be good right? (my oil squirters won't be squirting at idle

)
