Lowering my 1980 Truck
« on: May 30, 2007, 01:58:13 am »
What is the best way to lower my 1980 Caddy? I have seen spring sets for rabbit sedans but what is the best way to lower the rear of the truck?
What spring kits / shocks would you recommend? I don't want to slam it but bring it down enough to upgrade the handling and yet retain some of the ride.

Thanks

well the best way is to purchase lowering struts for the front . see where you are at after they are installed and and lower the rear the same hight ! and the best way iv'e seen is to cut the axel stub plates off and reweld and gusset them back on and add stiff KYB shocks! thats what i have done to mine i don't balieve fliping the axel on top of the spring plate and rewelding the spring plates is a good way to go ! for one you lose axel travel! two if you have a load the axel can hit the underneath of the bed giving you a rough ride! if you need someone to cut and weld the axel i can do it for you? I can weld it better than it came from the factory. i hold 4 of the highest level structural welding certification here in the state of wisconsin . anotherwords i'm capable of welding on bridges in the state or any where else with my qualifacations my profession is an union ironworker. hope that helps thanks Duane

Well I am in California so that would not work to good.

i have KYB shocks on my truck! cutting and rewelding is the only proper way to lower your caddy because they put the axel on the bottom of the spring! it's not like a domestic truck where the axel is on top of the spring where you can add lowering blocks! thats all i can tell ya good luck! thanks Duane

2" spacers above the bumpstops, and a 30 gallon tank seemed to do the job on mine :D

I had to use airshocks to get it off the stops when loaded.
