So, having some fun working through a few things on the mTDI here. I'm thinking that I may have a bad fuel cutoff solenoid...but correct me if I'm wrong...
K...here goes... when the solenoid if mounted in the pump, in the "OFF" position, the fuel stop hangs down in the hydraulic head blocking the spill port for fuel to flow. When power is applied to the terminal top + it is ground on the sides of the solenoid - and from there at the pump. When in the "ON" position, the solenoid creates a magnetic field and should pull the fuel stop UP INTO the solenoid itself, which then opens the spill port for fuel to flow.
Now...tested one of two probably pretty old solenoids that I had here tonight. The other is in the mTDI pump currently... anyways. used a 10amp setting on my battery charger. Connected power to the top of the solenoid (terminal +) and the ground to the side of the solenoid (screw portion -). Had the solenoid laying on its side with the fuel stop installed with spring, etc. Applied power and it SHOT the fuel stop and spring out of the solenoid vs. pulling it up in...
Did I miss something? Or is it too late for me to be typing? I thought it should pull it up in

The problem could be due to the battery charger you're using as a power supply. Without a battery connected to it to "filter" the output, most battery chargers have a good bit of ripple. This can make solenoids and relays do some wierd things like buzzing or not working at all. Some automatic chargers won't produce any output or will switch off suddenly (and possibly release the spring loaded solenoid plunger?) if they detect a load other than a battery. I would suggest using a battery for future testing to eliminate the variables. I a small 12 volt gell cell for bench testing, plenty of juice for testing purposes but no electrolyte to spill or gasses to explode and won't put up enough current to do any real serious damage if accidentally shorted.
SOLVED

battery charger did work to test. The method of "how" I was doing it the first time wasn't good...
More in the "troubleshooting" forum on it...since I misposted in the first place...

um sorry im just chiming in here on a fuel solenoid issue too
when i turn off my key in the tdi-m bunny, the car keeps running for at least 1 second after ive got the key outta the ignition!!! i do see the battery light coming on as i turn off the key(this is normal, watch yours next time you shut off your car)
im thinkin either a bad diode in the alternator,,or a sticky plunger for the shutoff solenoid,,,,i dunno
joe,joe,joe
i havent been on here in months ,and you are still "building" your tdi m??
thats the deal man?

:?:
Nope, its up and on the road. Wedding expenses, etc. have really cut into the budget for getting "extras" done on the car, so I kinda have to go "as is" for now. I'm hoping to get the R520's, I'd really like to do that here soon but thats quite the cash lay down prior to the big day. It is quite amazing though, and I have it on the road. Haven't driven it much but what I have has been really fun.
02a probably would def. be in store here. Had one lined up but it got sold on me before I could make a deposit....
