NoObIe question here
« on: May 24, 2007, 07:21:17 am »
Hello all, I have been looking around a bit before posting this so please bear with me if I missed it. My Fiance and I bought a 2006 Jetta TDI last year. We love the car but I want a little more. As you can see from my Sig I am a go hard or go home kind of guy :D  Anyway, I dont want to alter the car too much but I would like a little more spunk.

Basically I would like to pick up a few ponies, while keeping my current mileage if not improving it. Could someone give me some pointers as to where to begin? I am very new to Veedubs, and fairly new to diesels so all my experience with cars is pretty much useless

Thanks
Keith

PS - I am an ASE master tech, as well as certified master fabricator/welder, so you can give it to me straight :)

well you should probably do the EGR delete... as every EGR equipped car has a gunked up intake manifold, and even the head is a bit gunked up as well...

But if you have an emissions inspection, you may not pass if you touch the EGR. I know there are performance chips, maybe programmers for TDIs.

I read something, maybe under the TDI section. Just put a similarly shaped steel plate over where it was, plug the vacuum line and unplug the wires. Guess it would be easy enough to reinstall if needed.

It was here, though on an IDI engine. http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8380

You need to go to http://www.tdiclub.com/

As far as the best mod for you, I would recommend the Diesel Power Digi PD  tuning box. It is a simple plug in unit that alters your fueling and has no effect on fuel economy. It is also easily removed for warranty work. Anything more aggressive and you will need a different clutch/flywheel.

Here is their website:

1991 Jetta TD - sold :(
2001 Golf TDI - Son's

hmmm yea... i know here in Canada nobody really tests diesels because we don't have the equipment... i guess if the guy's wanted to be real dicks they could check for a cat and for the EGR device... but if you put a nice block off plate nobody will know

i wish i had a pic of a gunked up head for you... that stuff is nasty!
