Ok the GTD engine bits didn't really work out as planned so...

I'm going to look at a car later on which I think has a 1Y (1.9 N/A) motor in it.

Having just read the first 20 pages on this forum ( ) I have picked up the following info.

1.6 GTD cam has slightly better lift than the 1.9.

Both the 1Y and AAZ have piston squirters.

Are the compression ratios different between 1Y and AAZ?

Merc NA34X injectors will work better than GTD (SB code) injectors if I can find some (but we have had a 300 TD Merc in the family for over 10 years   )

GTD pump should work on the 1Y without probs (please let me know if this isn't right!)

I checked that the exhaust valves on the AAZ and 1Y are the same although the inlets have a different part number  :?

The nice inlet manifold which Baxter pointed out comes on the 1Y so that will help.

Oh and a Chargecooler wouldn't go amiss...

This would be going into a T3 Bluestar so the exhaust system is already about 2.5inch bore from VW.

Same compression ratio.

Different pistons and pins (2mm smaller)
Different con rods and big end bearings.

This has nothing to do with your engine build but wouldn't you happen to have any high resolution pictures of your T3. It looks really good!

Er thanks..   :)

I run it on the multispoke wheels but had 996 Turbo wheels on it for an hour and took some bigger pics of it then.

I need to have a few paint bits done here and there but am slowly improving it.

From what I can gather the ABL (T4 1.9TD) is very similar to the AAZ but without a LDA on the pump, need to check a few bits but it opens up the search for AAZ'a s they seem to command an unrealistic scene tax, specially taking into account the issues the crank and pulley have.
