This is a IDI and TDI, post, I am not posting this yet over @ tdiclub.com, for a few reasons, but lest discuss here.
We seem to be hitting the limit of the known IP's (Injection Pumps) there have been a number of posts of seized pumps, and a number more I'm sure that go unreported.
The VE has some nice fetures such as dynamic timing adjustment, but also seems to have some severe RPM limits with big heads and agressive fuel plates. Now we obviously to this point have more then enough fuel for the IDI, as PCP's seem to be limiting that i the form of the head lifiting, but I wonder if some of this could be aliviated if we pushed the rpm band out some, and kept the fueling limited till we get out there some. I know that we still have some work to do on the sealing of the head regardless, but it is just a thought.
Now if we are talking about the TDI, fueling is very much at the limit. 11mm pumps and r520's are not enough, it barely keeps up with VNT20's let alone twins ect... 12mm pumps have been tried with very limited sucess as they seize easily and have a low rev limit.
So to me the only logical next step is either twin IP's both with like 8mm heads, or an inline pump. Twin pumps would alow us to keep dynamic timing advance, but would pose a challange to get the timing between the two of them exact, as well as to create a new injector top that would allow twin feed. Not to mention the fitment issues.
So in my mind we are left with an inline pump. I have been throwing this idea around since the old hostboard days, but never seriously enough to do anything about it, but this has revitalized my intrest.
