I have a 84 Volkswagen Rabbit with a diesel engine. The car recently had horrible fuel mileage and I checked the oil and the crankcase is almost overflowing. I beleive there is fuel in the oil. Is this common on volkswagens? I think it probably is leaky injectors and I am planning on replacing them. Is this the right direction to go? Also is there anything else that could cause this that i should look out for?
you are on the right course. It's a serious condition, you might wreck your bearings, the engine could run away and/or you could blow your seals.
Is the coolant level changing at all?
i had a similar condition to this... turned out to be a combination of bad injectors and leaky oil cooler.
don't drive much at all. and if you NEED to, then don't drive it hard... gingerly!!!!
get those injectors asap... change the oil, then get the car up to temp, shut her down and pull the injectors (spray some lube on them right now, so that it penetrates down)
Massive blow by? Lots and lots of short trips where the engine never heats up? Greedy neighbor who wants to buy your car and is making midnight visits? Or not.
