:( i'm having problems starting and keeping the car running......

i can see air bubbles in the fuel line coming from the fuel filter in to the pump. this could also be the cause of the rough idle.

any suggestion....

do i need a new fuel filter or is it just air in the fuel tank? i filled up the tank full and though it was goin to solve the problem....

yep go ahead and change your filter.. it's the easiest thing to solve air bubbles.  the seal on your filter for the heater might be leaking... should be a new one on the new filter.

btw give us some more details of what your vehicle is.

I also had a lot of air in my lines. I replaced the fuel filter, the fuel lines between the pump and the filter as well as the return lines between the injectors. Any small cracks/leaks in any of these spots will make the car difficult to start. If the air bubbles don't purge out after letting the car run for a while you should also check your pump main seal.

the air would be purged from the pump after a bit of cranking...

i've been trying to crank the car over all morning and im having no luck, apart from the occasional start with my foot on the gas pedal...

i don't have an idea... normally i can work it out after tinkering around under the bonnet for a will, but not this time...

remove the filter and use a rover 220D one,the crappy valve on the top plays up,so join the return pipe and throw the valve away, the rover filter is the same size, just has 2 push on pipe fittings, easy to fit and try that

UPDATE!!!!

Still won't start... only when i put abit of gas on as i turn the key it starts. but it still idles very rough and the idle rev is only 8k rpm. the car is smoking like fcuk (white)

is this a possible symptom of bloked injectors?

Is your throttle cable slipping? Make sure there is only a little slack on the cable.

Did the car run before or is this a new (to you) vehicle?

the car was running perfect the day before, its not a new car , i drivr it ever day without fail.
the cables not slipping nor is their any extra slack in the cable.

I GOT THE CAR TO START, EARLIER TO DAY WITH ALOT OF DIFFICULTY AND WHITE SMOKE. THEN I FORCED IT ON TO THE MTORWAY AND DROVE IT FOR OVER 30MILES AND DRIVE IT BACK HOME. IT GAVE ME NOT PROBLEMS ON THE MOTORWAY DRIVING AT 80MPH NEITHER WAS THEY ANY WHITE SMOKE. BY THE TIME I GOT IT HOME AND  PARKED UP, I SWITCHED OFF THE ENGINE AND GAVE IT 10 MINUTES AND TRIED STARTING IT UP AGAIN. GUESS WHAT IT DIDN'T WANT TO START AND ONCE AGAIN IT WAS SMOKING WHITE.

I HAVE COME TO A CONCLUSION MAY IT BE THE INJECTION PUMP PLAYING UP.. THATS WHY I HAV TO FORCE THE PEDAL TO GET THE PUMP TO BUILD UP ENOUGH PRESSURE TO SUPPLY FUEL IN THE CHAMBERS?SO MAKING LOADS OF WHITE SMOKE WHEN THE ENGINES COLD OR HOT. IT MOST BE THAT THE PUMP CAN'T BUILD UP THE REQUIRED TO PRESSURIZED THE INJECTOR 150PSI...

You should buy a simple bulb pump and hook it up between the pump input and the fuel filter. Prime the pump with this and see if it will start. If it starts then your pump main seal has failed. Also look for any diesel on the pulley side of the pump.

The timing is worth checking as well. AAZ engines are well known for the crank pulley key wearing out and the crank pulley bolt loosening, this throws the timing out and causes hard starting, smoking and generally poor running. if it progresses much further the key can shear completely, the cam timing goes out of whack and the valves hit the pistons.
