Interchangable Parts??
« on: May 09, 2007, 05:25:13 am »
In cleaning out the barn the other day, I came across some used parts I had picked up from a guy I used to work with when I had my 86 Jetta (1.8L gas).  Just wondering if any of them will work on my 97 Jetta. If they will, I'll put them back in that dark corner of the barn. The parts are:

- driveshaft assy with inner and outer CV joints.

- outer CV joint

- front hub assy

- front coil springs

I'm guessing I have some pretty dusty paperweights here, but just checking to make sure. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks Tyler.

I tried to look up part numbers on a couple of parts sites, but nothing matched. But that doesn't surprise me. Quite often, part numbers changed from year to year with not real change to the item that affected form/fit/function.

seems to me that all parts would be close, but not exactly interchangeable.

ekta is the parts program the dealer uses.

so if you don't have ekta, call your local dealer parts guy, and say something like "i need yadda yadda for 97 jetta" get him to tell you part numbers, then say you need the same stuff for 86 jetta and get part numbers. if he seems competant, inquire about their interchangeability. the part numbers could be different and they could still work...

Ohh I'm sorry, I got confused with the years. I didn't realise you were jumping platforms.

Being a 97 I don't think the springs will work, I doubt the CVs will but the hub might.

Chances are the CVs are 90mm and all mk3s are 100mm (as far as I know anyways)
