I broke the bolt that the wires attach to on my boesh starter. 86 Golf Diesel 1.6 NA. Actually the bolt looks fine but it came off when the plastic tab that it was in broke off, the bolt has a copper piece on the end. I was replacing the starter because mine was only engaging for a sec then spinning(figured it was the solenoid). Any suggestions? Can I reattach the bolt with some JB weld and something on the copper contact to keep the connection? I would use my solenoid on this starter but I think my solenoid is probably bad.

Thanks

Robert

make sure you solder the connection too... and you'll never have a problem with corrosion :)

Come to think about it... the starter only engaging for a few moments and then not sounds like brushes. I'd also try swapping the solenoids over after trying to repair it

Its probably the bush worn in the gearbox that supports the starter shaft
