Hello all
I am in the process of sourcing all the bits and pieces required to fit power steering in into my R/H drive GTD. Got most of the bits to do the conversion, the only thing I am lacking is the power steering reservoir, mount and pipe down to the T piece in the return pressure line pipe work. I am told that due to there being an intercooler fitted on the GTD then the steering reservoir isn’t mounted on the chassis rail as on a standard petrol model.
Has any one got any under bonnet photos so I can see the location the reservoir is mounted. Also if any one has a reservoir, mount, pipe and T piece going spare they would like to sell on.
This was diagram was taken from Vagcat.com, its for a L/H drive model but shows the pipe work, reservoir and T piece.

Hey, I took some photos for you this evening, the resevoir is located under the intercooler. it's not a great place though IMO, hard to get to!

Goodluck and let me know how the PAS conversion works out, my friend is looking to do it on his mk2
Might I change the subject slightly on this? Where can I get a power steering pump and bracket that will bolt up to my 1.6? I'd like to use the stock VW alt., retain the AC pump, and have a PS pump all on my engine for the swap I'm working on.
most later mk2 TDs came with PS (unfortunatly) you shouldn't have a problem finding a used one

Being in the US I will have a problem. Guess I'll keep my eye open on ebay Is there a setup I can use to adapt my current accessories and add the PS pump?
Is this what I need?
click here Would it still work with my current alt and AC pump?
(Sorry to steer this thread away  )
that looks like a mk2 pump. personally i would rather change to mechanical steering... power steering is nice, but one more thing to break (and get in the way of when changing the t-stat)

It's not going into a VW. Power steering WILL be needed. It's for a 4x4 suzuki samurai on 33" tires.
Yes that is the proper pump. You'll need a different crank and WP pulley most likely. Just put a WTB on the forums, someone definitly has one. I just threw one out or I'd have one
Con,
Thanks for thee photos

,spoke to my mate who knows a VW parts man who checked it out for me, apparently the GTD,because of the intercooler set up, the reservo bottle is located on the N/S inner wing in the recess ibn the washer bottle as per photo below
click here Hence the reason why your reservior is a s**t to fill up. Hopefully he has managed to find the bits i need. I have a full Gti power stweering set up to use bits from. The mounting on the GTD for the alternator / steering pump is completly differant from the petrol model, managed to get one of a GTD that was being broken.
