Boost pressure porblem Garrett T3 Mk2 1.6 TD
« on: May 02, 2007, 03:32:38 pm »
Hello :)) i am new here :)) and i ve got such problem://

I'd like to incresse my boost presuer in my Mk2 :))

I' ve got
1.6 TD engine
Garrett T3
Intercooler from Mondeo 1.8 TD

i 've done the LDA trick and increese the fuel doose about 1/6 of a full rotation

I don hav a MBC (manual boost controler ) so i've done such thing:

My pressure is now 0,8 bar bou i wont more :)) But my T3 don't wont to blow it higher :// i dont know why ://
When i disconnect teh IC and put it toogether like in standard it gives 1bar pressure
Is it possible that my IC loos 0,2 bar pressure ??
And why it don't wont to be higher ???

please help

well it is possible that that your IC is cooling that efficiently...  there is a pressure difference between hot and colder air, maybe not that significant though...

looks like you have some sort of boost bleed system... doesn't look too efficient.  with that system it would bleed off all your boost air and possibly make the turbo over spin for the amount of boost...  without an EGT gauge, messing with that can get you some cooked parts such as turbo, and some internal engine parts.

if you really want to be adventurous, then disconnect the hose going to the wastegate, and completely seal it off somehow as to not leak any boost pressure.  keep boost at safe levels... around 15-18 psi...  maybe 20 for a second or two.  but without an EGT gauge you could seriously wreck your motor doing this...  keep an eye on the smoke coming out of the tailpipe as well... too much smoke = high EGT and you will surely wreck something!!!

I know !! i set it up in such way that when full bost comes my car stops smoking out of the tailpipe !!! so the fuel dose is correct :))

boost bleed system...
What do you mean ????? I 've checked if teher is any leak in my IC system and it looks to be OK :))

I looked cerfully on my engine and i cont see any leaks of oil !!!
Only Turbo swets a little bit in pipes going to IC :////

adventurous?? hmm i think i wont be trying this cous i dont want to broke something :PPP

hmm

Do you think that this loos of 0,2 boost pressure can be caused by such thing like:

My IC is placed in front of a radiator!! it is connectet by pipes wiht 50mm branch diameter !!!
But IC has got one whole = 50mm and teh other one is 35mm !!!
My Turbo blows an air in whole 50mm The air goes through IC and comes out by whole = 35mm !! and goes to the engine :))
Mayby this is the reason of my pressure loos ??

Mayby i should czange it ???
Turbo -> 35mm IC air enterance -> IC -> 50mm IC air exit ->engine:) ??What do you think ??

This image shows the situation i'm talking about !!

Green arrows is my idea for solution :)) Will it give some effects ??

difference in hose diameter will cause restriction for sure...

have you disabled your wastegate? it looks like you vented the hose that goes to the wastegate to the atmosphere in the picture you have in your first post...

Yes !!! cuz i dont have the other homemade idea to increase boost in Garrett T3
Mayby u know ??? write it to me :)) or better show in some images :))

Why should I disable wastegate? what for ???and how ??

well what you have done is bled the pressure to the atmosphere... what this is doing is making the turbo work harder to create the boost pressure that you want.  it is highly advise not to do so. EGT's will be higher since the wastegate is not opening, and the because of the pressure difference (bleeding your precious boost air is causing it)

I either recommend disabling the wastegate completely BUT keeping an eye on your boost gauge... your pedal will be your boost controller

to make your own boost bleed system, check out ebay.. there's some pretty cheap ones out there.

I think i will go back to normal setup until i wont buy some Manula Boost Controler cuz without it i'll allways be loosing my precious boost.....

Thank u very much !!!!
