Well I bought the engine today. I should have it next week. Thanks for all the input.
I'm going to change the TB before I put the engine in so I need to do some searching on that.....
If you plan on driving that much each way research the transmission code in the car and the gear ratios. You will probably want to change out the transmission also with something for highway use, the stock trans in 91 was not a highway flyer (more like 4000 rpm at 75mph), find a AGS code (3000rpm@70mph) or ACN (3000rpm@75mph) since your changing the engine anyways the trans is just sitting there...
It will get you 5mpg or more plus reduce the noise a lot.
That might not be a turbo pump on the car, some USA models had altitude adjustment in place of the LDA (looks just like a turbo pump), it would have some sort of valve on the pass fender well that controls it.
Ok yet another thing I did't know!
Looks like my engine deal fell through, so looks I'm looking for a engine and trany. What year VW would have the high gears?
i'd say that '86 was a good year for trannies... my '86 jetta could go 160km/h down the highway at around 3800 rpm or so. maybe 3900?
That's a ten hour drive for me. Would be fun though.
Thanks for the link.
