BAD diesel leak.
« on: April 28, 2007, 09:57:17 pm »
HELP!

I'm leaking fuel out of my injection pump between the gap from where the injector fuel lines come out and the other side of the pump, about half way across.

It seems like it's coming from the front bolt hole on the injection pump.

It leaks really bad when the car is cold, but once it warms up it seems to clear up, but as soon as the car is shut off it leaks about 1/4 quart.  (estimated from puddle size)

Is there anything I can do to patch it up so it doesn't leak anymore?

It also seems as if there is air getting into the lines.  Because after it's started it stutters a little until I rev it up, then it clears up and runs fine.

Any tips?

That the hydrolic head seal, common on these pump.

It could be replace, seal kit is around 20$, but you need to remove the pump and do the job yourself.

If you send your pump to a pump specialist it will be around 500$ for the job.

If you could remove the pump and reinstall it i could do all the seal around the pump for aroung 350$ and reship the pump to you.

Where can I get the seal kit?  I think I can handle doing the seal kit as long as my Diesel manual covers it well enough.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

Buy Canadian !!!

If you search on the forums at www.vwdieselparts.com you'll find complete teardown instructions as well as several threads on how to replace that o-ring *without* removing the pump... assuming you're brave and know how to work cleanly and carefully.

I've done it on a practice pump and it was no big deal, *but* if it goes awry your garage floor will suddenly fill with springs and cams and the job will unfortunately get much bigger... proceed with caution is the order of the day !!

Cool!  But I can't read french and the online translators don't work that well, so what exactly does this include?  Does it include all the seals for the pump and the special tool to get the rounded bolt out?

As far as doing it on the car, I'd much rather do it on the bench, I've spent too much time bent over my car doing non-delicate work that I think I would drive myself insane (or my back) trying to do delicate work while bent over.  (I drop stuff when I work on my car a lot....)

But I found all the timing tools for US$70 from http://dieselvw.com but I'd like to get it all in one place.

If I called your phone could i order in english with a US credit card?

Sorry, a lot of questions!  But you guys sure are one of the best resources for diesel info!
