i like the way that the 1.9's and TDI's work... they have a hose running from the vent to the bottom of the block which would eventually flow into the sump. and another hose that is higher that flows back to the intake.
with some steel wool in that area (rig up something) you should be able to make the oil go back into the pan.. you could easily rig something like this up on the older 1.6's with some oil pan modifications...
