Having a Bolt Problem
« on: April 23, 2007, 09:02:47 pm »
Im Hoping somebody can give me some advice on this, Im currently trying to take the head of my Rabbit engine off to get into the Cylinder #1 because of a blown glow plug fragments still sitting inside the cylinder.   I'm trying to take one of the Cylinder Head bolts out, and the thing wont move.  I've gotten 7 out of 10 bolts removed.  I've Broken two 10 MM polygon socket head pieces, as well as a 3/8 short extender. (Yea.. the tool head just snapped right off).  I was using a 3 ft PVC pipe to put some leverage on it.  I know im putting too much force on the tool.  How can i resolve this?  Could the Bolt be somehow Fused to the engine or something?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hmm......  That actually might be my problem.... I may have messed up the order in unscrewing them, because Im going by the haynes repair manuel, it it just says to reverst the order shown in fig 1.12......  I may have mixxd something up there.... i can just put the bolts back in place right?? because i actually completely took them out....

Ok... Lets just say i screwd up the engine.. and had to replace it... (im not saying i did......haha) But what would be the biggest engine i could put in a 79 Rabbit?? I know the 1.6 TDI seems like the most popular, but are there 1.8 or 1.9 or larger engines i could swap in??
