Need a little help guys....
« on: April 15, 2007, 06:08:59 pm »
A co-worker has a TDI engine out of a 95 Jetta that does not run. It sounds to me as though it spit the belt off and bent a couple of valves, although this has not been confirmed. The engine obviously does not run, and does not include anything except the engine itself. Can anybody give me a ballpark price on the thing, it's the last piece of the puzzle that I need to finish my 90 Golf. Thanks for any help.

If it were I buying it, I'd say no more than ~$600 or so. If it spit a belt and trashed the valves, you have quite a bit of work ahead of you, and that could get quite costly.

If the engine is original to the '95 it's probably a 1.9 idi, not tdi. A lot easier to put in your '90, still mechanical injection. Will be costly to repair though......

Does it include the pump, turbo, manifolds, line etc etc?

If it is the AAZ I wouldn't pay more then $400 if the timing belt had jumped even if it had all the accessories.

If it is the AAZ then there is the whole crank pulley issue which will need to be dealt with, and this could actually be what caused the problem.

Thanks for the help so far, guys. It does include a very recently rebuilt turbo, as well as the injector pump. From what I understand, it is a mechanical pump, the car could be a 96, my memory does NOT serve me well.
