Need help finding out tranny type

I have a 1991 Jetta 1.6 TD. I know it is a 4S 020. I just changed the tranny oil. The code on the bottom is 4S20119 (or 0?, its hard to tell) with a 7 over top the 9 (or 0). Is there any way to tell if it is the old or newer type? I added oil just to the drain plug level. I am just wondering if maybe the tranny had been switched out at some point.

I was able to add about 1.7 L of fluid to the fill plug level. I read that if it was the old type than you should add another 500mL but both have the same capacity of 2L so I am thinking I have the newer type because I would be way over the normal capacity. Does this sound right?

Read THIS.  It looks like your transmission was made on the November 20th of 1989 (or 1990 depending on what really is the last digit).  From what that guy says on that website that if you fill the transmission as full as you can for the side 17 mill plug, then if it full.

I still jack the the driver side of the car when I fill the transmission.  It gives me more room to work without having to take the tire off, and it is easier to get the full 2.1 qt of oil in it without having any spill on the ground.  Then, when I check the fliud level after every oil change, I can do that by making sure some oil comes out, but not having to worry about transmission getting to low.
