That is dirt cheap  Check the PS fender area/strut tower area for rust, they are notorious for rusting there. If you don't buy it please send me the contact info as I am interested in it.
Being that cheap I would be very cautious with the rebuild and body on the truck

Like burn_your_money says: just make sure you poke around for serious rust... particularly the lower frame and absolutely the shock towers. It can be repaired but is often extremely expensive and you'll flunk inspections (rendering it undrivable) until it's done. Don't ask me how I know !!
They are becoming quite rare so will hold their value unless the body is in poor shape... at which point the engine and tranny come out and the rest gets recycled !!

thanks again, some rust repair isnt a big deal, and i do my own safties(my dad is a licensed mechanic) so fixing and passing isnt a problem, as long as its not to far gone. hopefully he will take a little less though, since he says it has some rust and hasnt been driven for a while, thanks again

Is it grey? There was one for sale a while back on autotrader for $1500. The front end of that truck was welded on from a rabbit. It was sold to the shop for $500. I don't think this is the same truck but if it is I hear it was a hack job and is in need of alot of work.
Watch out for this kind of stuff
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3117145blacktieTD had a caddy that he had to fix all the rust around the strut towers on, thinking back I should have bought that truck from him

burn: yes you should have  , then it would have gone to a real enthusiast who would have done something with it, instead of the loser it ended up with.
to the original poster, the condition of the body IMO is the only real concern here. parts and engines can be replaced/rebuilt... the unibody of the truck is so important. drop me an IM if you'd like any more info or anything.

The truck is supposed to be red. wont rrally know until i look at it about the overall condition, i'm hoping its good, would it be fair to offer like $1500-1600?

You have to look at the price before making any offers, if he is asking 2000 he is probably expecting someone to offer him 1500 so I wouldn't feel bad about offering that. If you offer that before even looking at it he will point out the rebuilt engine cost, rarity etc etc but if you look at it and focus on the rust, etc then he will be more likely to lower his price
Lanny who has the truck now? Maybe I can snag it off him

tyler, the guy who i sold it to was supposed to rebuild it from where i stopped, instead threw it together half-assed and 'flipped it' for 1/2 of what he paid for it. :? not sure who bought it from him. all the rusties i worked to expose and begin fixing are surely quietly rotting away under the coverup undercoating and spraybomb job that was applied. unless you could snag the truck on the cheap and want an exercise in bodywork, i wouldn't bother with that one. bloody shame!

heres the only problem, the guy is in British Columbia and the truck is near me at his fathers, so i basically have to go look at it, see if his father knows his lowest price, if not, then i have to e mail him to ask after looking, but its about an hour drive to see it. so, i dunno what to do yet, lol

there's not much to decide at this point, if you want a caddy drive out and see it, its only an hour away. for that price its probably rusted out so the only option is to see it in person to make that determination.

went and looked at it, its pretty solid, but the fenders are flopping off(big holes in the top and the seam is all rotten where it joins to the cab) rear fender lip is getting rusty on both sides, box floor has been patched from rot(not very well done) fuel lines are leaking a bit, brake lines have been kinda hacked together with joiners(no big deal, just not a nice clean job). front replacement fenders come with it, so that needs to be done, box floor needs to be redone, windshield needs to be replaced, emergency brake cables to. didnt see under the hood, latch was seized, going to look at it tomorrow in the better light, but i think its not worth 1500 even, what do you guys think, i'll take pics to if i remember to take the camera.
