I recently put a down payment on the '85 TD Coupe Jetta of my fathers.

I hate to ask this, as I've been using the search and found oh so many details as to what I can do to make it a bit quicker, but what are the first things I should do that will give a little performance increase without having to worry about EGT's right away?  Any input is appreciated.  Eventually, it will get an intercooler and maybe a different turbo.

Just wondered what some simple things I could do to it to get more fun out of the car.

Thanks.

All power gains with cars are a function of money.  I think the best bang for your buck upgrade on my car was the passenger performance downpipe and new 2.25" exhaust from there back.  It's amazing how much quicker even my little k14 turbo will spool now and if yours has a k24 it needs all of the spooling help it can get.  I also picked up 4-5 mpg with the upgrade.  Good luck with the car.
