The Hybrid Turbo is complete
« on: April 06, 2007, 10:11:41 pm »
My GF was seeing her cousins new baby so I decied to build up my Hybrid Turbo with K24 exhaust side and    K26 cold side........

I will post pics later but    the most important part is  to make sure you take everything apart  up to the ringlet ( the two open ringed shims that are 120 or in my case 180 degrees out of alignment)

Replace the K24 one for a K26  one and every thing else that is above the ringlet must be changed to K26(ie housing).  I also found that when bolted back together, that I did not need a shim under the K26 impeller because I was using the K26 housing.

but I broke the rubber gasket  :x so I will be in need of a rebuild kit,   SO I will break the turbo down and post pics of everything.

If you're using the k26 impeller does this mean you still have the k24 impeller lying somewhere? If it's in perfect shape and you're willing to sell it, PM me. If you have a working k24 wastegate that would be awesome too

Thats the nice thing about the KKK turbos...they bolt right together.

I also need to get the rubber seals. The rebuild kit I got from here didnt have the rubber o-ring or the wastegate gasket. Other then that it was a super nice kit.

This build is very similar to the K24 break down and rebuild, but the integration of the K26 Compressor housing, bearing, compressor and the housing need to be swapped.

I tested my wastegate and was playing around with the waste gate adjustment screw, and found the max or locked setting and least or minimum boost setting. Makes a nice click noise, and I had to blow alot of diesel soot build up out of it.

I'm gonna post pics tomorrow, before it goes to be balanced.

I wish I could have bought a Dieslicious turbo rebuild kit but this kit I purchased will have to do, they play has dropped to almost zero after I checked the new non ball bearing bearings or sleave bearings I believe there called.

If anyone has a kit I would be happy to by it off of them, because I'm going to build another Hybrid Turbo for my 1.6 TD.

So this is the KKK versian of the T3/T4.  You now have a K24/6.  Where are you sending it for balancing?  What is the trim of your compressor wheel, and what is the A/R of the housing?  How big is the exit from the compressor?

I will measure these items tomorrow, but the Turbo is going to go in today for balancing and to have the shaft straightened. I purchased a K26/27 rebuild kit online and the turbo feels like it is brand new.

I will post pics later.....
