engine swap on vw

i have a vw rabbit ls diesel ls 1.6 whont to do a engine swap what diesel engind to use i have been told the 1.9 IDI
 how easy is the swap

what do you want to accomplish with the swap? is your engine toast, or do you simply want more power? is yours turbo or N/A?

you can do a lot with a 1.6TD and it bolts right into your car.  Not sure if the 1.9 will without modifications.

I'm a bit confused on what you're asking.  Maybe you could try writing it a bit clearer, in plain english.

I have done the 1.6 non-turbo to 1.6 Turbo swap and it's not all that hard if you have time, space, and a little bit of money.  The biggest challenge is the source of the 1.6 TD motor. If you find one in a MK2 VW, you will have to move motor mounts and the like. If you find one from a MK1 VW, it should almost be like Windows, drag and drop....but with just as many crashes!!!

im in high school auto 3 and the teacher would a how to list
if i do the swap what do i need to buy electric wise and is there any electric work involved to swap a 1.6non td in my vw rabbit ls diesel 2 door 4 speed and runs on french frie oil but change it out and put a 1.9tdt in what do u think it will invovle

Putting a 1.9 TD in a rabbit will involve quite a bit of work, if it is possible.  The 4spd you have probably won't bolt up to the 1.9 engine.  The 1.9 TD injection pump has electrical devices that your rabbit was not designed for so you will need to fabricate the wiring and such.  The motor mounts, as the above poster said, are also different.  I think that a 1.9 TD into a rabbit would involve quite a bit of modification.  Your best bet would be to find a rebuildable 1.6TD in an MK1 jetta (or a rabbit, but there weren't too many of them) and swap that in.  Or find one in an MK2 Jetta and modify the motor mounts and fabricate the wiring for the injection pump.

I am not sure but I think that even the TDI's will bolt up to the transmission found in the rabbit, weather it holds or not is another story

It seems that I saw a thread that a guy had put a TDI in his rabbit pickup I think that this thread is at www.vwdieselparts.com/forum somewhere, i will try to find the link for you

I am not sure how hard it is to install the turbo engine since i have never tried it but i think that it should be pretty straight forward it will just be a tighter fit than than the NA

you will also need to install oil lines to the turbo to keep it from over heating and just to lubricate it. and you may want an intercooler
there should be any more electonics on the 1.6 turbo than there are on the 1.6 NA

a lot of guys say that you need the turbo block because it has the oil squirters for the pistons to keep them cool, but i have seen auto companies that drill a small hole in the upper part of the connecting rod that squirts oil onto the bottom of the piston and i think that vw owners could do the same

and there are guys that run turbos with low boost without oil squirters

so you shouldnt need a whole new engine but it will require a different set of manifolds i believe

i am probably missing a few things, guys??
