I'm a bit if a newbie I just purchased an 85 golf diesel and I have the chance of getting an 84 jetta td motor, Is this motor the one I should look to rebuild for my car? I believe this motor should have the oil squirters and the better injection pump with the boost switch and such, or is the one I should try and get out of the canadian jetta's. Thanks for any help.

That 1.6td will be fine. The only thing is it is mechanical lifters. Now thats ok. Just some people like hydraulic. The nice thing about the hydraulic blocks is that you can use the 1.9 metal head gasket.
Its a good step up from the NA engine if you have a chance.
That 84 Jetta dosent happen to have the steering wheel center section that has Turbo Diesel on it does it..if so I want it.
Might want to put your location in your profile

You'll need to change the motor mount by the IP, which involves removing it. I'm pretty sure the exhaust will clamp up. I'd use the mechanical engine
