rebuilding my '82 1.6 to TD, looking for advice
« on: March 28, 2007, 01:40:49 am »
so im finishing up my 91 golf daily driver, high comp/ported ect aba swap on standalone....

next is to tackle my 1.6D engine that i bent a valve with (doh)

so im deciding to completely rip the engine apart and build it back together new...

few questions...

head: it will be completely torn apart /w valve job and port/polished.

should i do the work to a TD head? why?
should i spend the extra few bucks for oversized valves? exhaust will be sodium filled.
is their any additional porting i need to do? you guys have any exp. with this?

bottom end: again, fully rebuilt

i think oil squirters are worth it, i have some out of a blown aba, can i use them? how do you install them? is that a machine shop job?
also, forged pistons... i'm going to go with an oversize piston.... should i just get some forged pistons? does anyone sell them? for max performance, should i go with the n/a pistons? arent they higher in compression? and then have them coated?
ARP - im assuming they are made for the diesel as well, and im talking main and head studs, and rod bolts. should be a 20mm pin right? 21mm?

plans im also thingking about...

t3/t4 50trim .48 stg1 on log manifold
3" dp /w 3" side exit
giles pump
head rebuilt /w new valves, ported/polished
bottom end /w oversize
passenger performance cam
front mount IC

any other info you can give me would be great :)
