I'm thinking of doing a rebuild on my own IP. What I need to know is how hard is this to do for a first time? I've got experiance rebuilding motors, starters, alternators, water pumps etc....

I just don't have the $1k to get Giles to do a pump while doing a motor rebuild. I have 2 pumps to use, one on the car has been sitting 2 years with a broken timing belt on the motor. Other pump is running but leaks badly.

What ya think? I was checking out the guy on eBay thats selling the rebuild kits and was gonna buy the extra front seal as i'm sure it should be done right now as well.

the only thing i can input to your thread, is take pictures, get baggies if you dont have a large area dedicated, and make notes, and check out the thread on how to do it.. i forget the name of the thread, but it was initially french, then translated into english by veeman i think..

if you're good with your hands i'd say go for it. the pictures will help you put it back together the way it was. take pictures from all angles. named tintin was saying that some of those kits on ebay are fake and scam. He also said that some of the o-rings and gaskets are too small or too big and not a good proper fit and will leak after a while anyways. make sure you get a real BOSCH rebuilt kit!

oh yea.. cleanliness is next to godliness - do NOT get dirt into your pump. clean clean clean clean!!!!!!! wearing disposable gloves will help a lot.

i have a few pumps i can tinker around with, so if i break one i won't be too dissapointed. I'm going to be trying the same thing as you!

More than the e-bay "generic" kit, but also comes with the tool for removing the 3 sided nut, and has the seals for the Bosch pump for $29. They also have the seals, lift pump and rotor for $105 which seems like a good deal to me. On the other hand, all I've bought from them is a dial indicator, so I have no experience with any of the IP stuff.

your best bet is to PM named tintin and give him the site and ask his opinion... i too have considered emiata's kit... thats a really good deal if you get the rotor too. it really would revive an old pump! of course it wouldn't be anything like a fresh rebuild from a shop with a test bench though...

I have that ebay kit you guys are refering to sitting on my desk. I don't have the space right now to attempt my resealing so it'll be a while before I can give feedback on it

This emiata site is the same guy selling on eBay. His name is Peter(eBay ID: Prothe) and that kit is for a Bosch VE pump but is not a real Bosch kit it would appear.

I am gonna have to try it out, get his kit with the 3 sided tool. I just hope I don't run into a problem needing some weird strange tool that no one sells other than the 3 sided socket, thats my worst fear.

In another thread Fatmobile discribes the three sided tool as a modified 12mm 6 point socket (cut off every second flat side he said). This is what I used and it worked great (didn't look like it at first though). Also the seal kit is about $13-20 at an injector shop. (No instructions though). I have one I got sitting in front of me.

This is a multikit for Bosch. I had some parts left over after doing my 1986 N/A Jetta pump. It should do a turbo pump as well. I haven't had time to try it yet.

P.S. It was my first one and it wasn't that hard, just very tedious. MARK EVERYTHING. :shock: Every nut, bolt, and bracket mark position with scribe or punch. Also pay very close attention to the thickness of the gaskets (one misplaced gasket made the whole pump not suck fuel for me)

The important is to change the throttle shaft and the throttle shaft bushing.

I got about 200 pump rebuilt since 2 years, I can do it for you for 250-300$ including the throttle shaft, bushing, kit and the rebuilt with the return by postes canada.

Ah crap, now you tell me, I already got my kit from him. It was tagged with part # 1 467 010 059. I hope I didn't just waste $35 (I bought a new main seal as well)!

That actually sounds real good, are you able to replace the rotor and such should my pump need it?

I wouldn't worry too much about the part number. If I remember correctly when I was looking there were 2 different kits with close to the same part number but with only slight differances. I think the only difference was that the kit I ended up with came with main shaft seal, the large rectangular seal for the top part of the pump, and a bunch of other seals used in the extra fuel feed on the turbo pumps. I don't think the other kit has these, or at least not the other one I was looking at.

Have fun on the rebuild. Keep the area clean and again MARK all positions of EVERYTHING including brackets and bolts with a scribe or punch (felt or paint pen will be gone in 10 seconds). This makes the job a whole lot easier not to mention possible! The tolerances for eveything are very, very small.

1 467 010 059 is for 1.6 Diesel not turbo, it's doesn't include the oring for the LDA lever (fuel leaking by the boost pin nipple.

You can buy the LDA oring separatly PN: 1 460 210 347

If you have a 1.9 Turbo Diesel (AAZ) you need another extra oring 1 460 210 301 for the stupid unused lever on the front of the pump.

Or buy the complete kit for the 1.9Turbo Diesel (AAZ) PN: 1 467 010 467

My kit include the SPI 17mm Shaft seal.
