The Quantum Part Out
« on: March 24, 2007, 02:01:23 pm »
So, I have this Quantum wagon TD, see. I bought it wrecked, so I could scrounge the engine and the diesel specific parts of the fuel system out of it.

It was a front-ender collision, smashing almost all the way to the driver's side wheel well. I'd write off the front suspension and steering components for certain.

However, the rest of the car is still pretty sweet. None of the glass is broken, the dash is excellent. Seats are a medium blue vinyl/leatherette. Sunroof is still in one piece and seems to work, but a twist in the body means it doesn't close all the way.

The rear hatch is spoken for already, but I'm offering up the hatch from my Syncro that just has a bit of rust and some damage from a forcible entry that popped the rear latch. It still latches, but it would need a touch of sheet metal work for the latch handle to seal against the door. And you get a rear window that says "Syncro" on it!

Automatic transmission, unknown condition. The driver's side driveshaft is questionable because of the crash, but the passenger's side should still be good. The two passenger side headlights (Quad rectangular) seem to be in good condition.

Rear suspension is good. Front disc brakes, no visible damage on either side. Rear drum brakes, good e-brake cables. Three stock rims, two with good rubber on them, and a stock-looking steel full size spare rim. The fourth stock rim took a bumper shot to the edge, folded a nice crease into the sealing edge. Pity, I was looking to use them on my Dash, since they look nice.

I'll put up some pics later, when the camera's charged. Everything's on a "make offers" basis, and I'm willing to trade rather than take cash if you have what I need. :D

You want just the tach, or the whole cluster? The tach just has a single gauge on it, I believe it's for fuel level but it might be coolant temp.

Whatcha offering?

Thinking about it I would need the whole cluster.
Its for a 85 golf. Your Quantum a similar vintage?
I understand some clusters have one plug and some two.
Give you $80
Guy

For that I'll give you a harness cut so you have the appropriate plugs, too. Just in case it doesn't match yours, then you don't have to hunt up the plugs. [edit] This particular Quantum is of an '83 vintage. Very similar, I'd say.

PM headed your way.

Alright!

I have a short, possibly incomplete list of things that I need and would be prime fodder for trades for bits of Quantum.

I need:

For a 1.6TD engine:

Water pump housing (it cracked in the wreck, just below the bolts)
Crankshaft (Suspecting the nose might have bent/broken)
Crankshaft main pulley
Crankshaft toothed pulley
A/C deletion bits
Quantum manual trans flywheel
Power Steering pump pulley (Or just the whole pump, if that's easier)

Non-Quantum specific:

Intake/Exhaust manifolds for a 5-cylinder turbo gasser Audi engine (Upgrading the 2.0! )
K14 or K03 Turbo; something smaller than stock on the Quantum 1.6TD (K24, right?) :D

When I got my '91 Golf, the PO had done a partial conversion to a powered sunroof.... cut parts off and made it so it wouldn't work manually anymore.
I installed the electric motor and needed a cover... Taa Daa in steps my buddy, parting out an '87 quantum.
The quantun sunroof motor cover and switch worked great on my Golf, with a little modification.... no more wires hanging down, nice and covered, looks stock.
...moral of the story?... if it has a sunroof, it might have a cover like the '87 did... don't throw it away it can be used to cover a manual to power sunroof conversion..
Tornado red, '91 Golf 4 door, with M-TDI 12mm pump, south bend clutch, VNT-15 turbo, 02A trany
MK4s: 2000 TDI jetta, 2003 TDI wagon, 2000 golf 2.0 gasser.
'84 Rabbit with 1.7TD KY block pistons bored to 80mm, VNT-15
'84 GTI with stock 1.6TD starion intercooler.

Thanks for the tip. I was planning to just cut that whole section out of the roof if someone didn't buy it, and store it away in case someone later wanted it or I wanted to install a sunroof on one of my other cars.
