weird cooling system problem II
« on: December 06, 2004, 02:09:37 pm »
Now this is really starting to annoy me.  The cooling light flashes pretty much all the time as soon as the engine warms up, but the car is not overheating.  Everything appears to be functioning normally under the hood.  Do any of you know where the temperature sensor for that cooling light and gauge is located?  I was under the hood pulling wires trying to locate it.  Pulled the one on the heater pipe that comes out the driver's side of the cylinder head, and the engine slowed down.  Connected it up again and the engine revved up (did this when the engine was cold).  No change at the gauge.  Pulled another wire that is connected to a sensor in the cylinder head, driver's side, also no change at the gauge.  Pulled the connector off the sensor that is in the cooling reservoir and the red light in the gauge started flashing, but the gauge did not move.  I don't see any other sensors in there.  The car is clearly not overheating unless there is another sensor in the engine somewhere and all the heat is being concentrated there, but if there is one, I can't find it.

Thanks.  I figured that's what that sensor did.  At any rate, I've had it with these problems and will be replacing water pump, thermostat, and coolant temp sensor (I found it, in the front pipe) tomorrow.  The car is my daily driver and I can't have it misperforming like this.  Whatever is wrong, it is about to be fixed.....
