« on: March 23, 2007, 10:20:49 pm »
I have my head off and am just getting ready to bolt it back down.

Went to get the head bolt torque specs, and realized I loaned out my Bently. Halp!

I really want to button this SOB back together tonight.

if you absolutely need to re-use the head bolts.. i'd say go for it... are you at least re-using the head gasket then??? no sense wasting a HG...

If you are reusing the headbolts you better have a 1.5 engine, and if you have a 1.5 engine you better not be following those tightening proceedures

Nope, 1.6.

I agree that new headbolts is the way to go, but this engine is coming out within a year. It's in the samurai, and I have another engine on a stand being built.

This is a fine example of why I will be using ARP head studs during my build.  I hate putting something back together and finding out I need a part that I dont have or need.  This will eliminate one small possability of " Oh ***, I thought I had that.  What time is it? 5 o' clock! *** everything just closed!"  Of course I have reused parts I wasnt supposed to in the past. Most hold just fine.  Of course I have also broken some and tripled the time and effort I had planned on something simple.  Usually accompanied by a proliferation of profanity and non-kind statements about quality control and the manufactorer in general.  When my neighbor comes over with his easy out to try and get the bolt out I hear " was that the old one?" Followed by "YES! it was the f***!!g old POS one! I know, I know!"   You think I would learn.  :)

LOL subsonic... I can relate

Guys, as much as I agree that headbolts should be replaced, you'd be surprised how many places reuse them. I certainly was when I started asking around.

The samurai engine is using oil, plus I'm going to need a clutch soon. So this engine is coming out mid-summer. I just need to limp along until then... I've dialed down the boost & fuel and will not "whip it like a red-headed stepchild" in the meantime.

Well jeeze, I was going to pull the engine in July, but now I want to run it to see how long it lasts.

I'm gonna have to call Mythbusters!

Question: Did I read correctly that the ARP headstuds are reusable?
