I'm pretty sure it is the same as the mk2, and is also the same as the AC setup.
I have one if I'm right

I tried to put an A1 non-AC diesel alternator bracket on an A2 and it set the alternator too far to the driver's side and the radiator got in the way.
 I wonder if an A2 alternator bracket (all the same AC or not) in an A1 would move the alternator to the passenger side... which probably wouldn't hurt, you'd probably just have to find a pulley with a shorter neck to get the belt to line up right on everything.
