« on: March 13, 2007, 06:09:01 am »
Hey im new here. Some may know me from the vortecks or mk1love.com
Anyway, Got a question about the AAZ motors.
Ive heard they have some type of crank issue?
Can anyone explain this more? Ive searched here a bit but didnt find anything.
What are the details of this issue and what are the solutions?
Need something real to replace the 1.5D in my rabbit.

thanks  :)

If you really want to use the 1.9TD motor, I would rebuild the whole thing....while you are rebuilding it get the crank fitted with a TDI pulley!! I did it like that on one of my IDI's its a great way to get peace of mind!!!!
Another way to prevent this is every time you change the timing belt replace the bolt and pulley(if it has damage)!!!!
If you know about the problem it isnt that hard to prevent!!!
good luck!!!

The crank problem is when the crank pulley starts to wobble like crazy. The bolt eventually snaps, causing your pistons to headbutt your valves. It happens when you re-use the old pulley bolt (it's a stretch bolt).

If you're buying an engine with such symptom, don't buy it or negociate the price WAY down cuz it's not a cheap fix.

Yeah, being in the southeast US im having to buy/shop for these things over the web. Not seeing them in person has me very worried about their crank condition and reluctant.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It seems that its going to cost me way too much to get one of these motors and to make it dead reliable. Meaning, having the crank fixed or getting the other TDI crank.
I would be driving this car from TN to CA so it would have to be 100% ready for non-stop action.
I think the best thing will be just to put in a 1.6D i have lying around.

thanks
