i highly doubt the front struts will fit...  pretty sure rear ones will, but i dont know... never worked on a mk1.

well thats good to know.......i'm trying to lift my caddy 2 inches.  the rear will be simple (leaf spring suspension)  but the front is where i am trying to find a REALLY easy way of doing this.  I've thought of a couple different ways to go about it but really looking for a fast, simple, bolt on, and sturdy way to go about it

if anyone has any useful info please let me know!

Not sure if you can use the whole strut, but I do remember (i think) using mark 2 springs in a mark one strut. Probably have to cut a coil off if I remember right. There's several different mark 2 front springs. If you've got access to a pair (and a spring compressor) go for it. Try it, if it's topped out with the car put back together, take it apart again and cut a coil off. If that's not enough to get it off  being topped out, do it again and cut off another 1/2 a coil. Just remember that every time you cut the coil, it gets a little stiffer......... You might get the ride height you want and have too rough a ride, although I liked it in my mk 1 jetta gasser....
Never did find one that would do the same in the back strut but you're dealing with a leaf spring in the back, right?

well i'm not sure if your still needing the info for your caddy but i can answer your question. 16 valve mk2 golf or jetta front springs work great thats all u use on the front in your mk1 strut assemblies is just the springs from the 16 valve !also you can add strut blocks between the strut and the body . i was able to find some rare risers from a snow plow system and that added 2 more inches to my lift on my rabbit so now i have between the top of the tire to the top of the wheel well in the front is 6 inches and the rear is 8 inches looks like a jacked-up-rabbit that what my experiments have gotten me so far Duane

Have a look at these threads on the caddy forums.
mud boggin caddy Guy got a 3" lift with universal lifting blocks in the back and 91 Passat Strut housings in the front. I love that pic of the black Caddy Sport Concept, makes me want a lifted caddy so bad...

The final word on lifitng a mk1 I don't know how high this lift is but, look at the pic... gotta be 6" at least. Porsche 944 struts/springs up front and he mentions BMW for the back.

Another thread about 1.5 inch suspention lift for a caddy using 90 Passat Wagon Springs in the MK1 housings and adding two leaves to the rear.

The Passat wagon springs look to be the easiest bolt on way to get a safe 1.5" - 2" of lift without getting the geometry too far out of whack and have parts rubbing and wearing prematurely.

Also an add-aleaf Kit that adds 2.5" lift to the rear.

i saw there were a few concerns about driveshaft problems with big front end lift - i just thought that if you used mk2 driveshafts (~6mm longer) you may negate any premature wear issues for the cv's.
