WTB: TDI Alternator (Clutched???)
« on: March 06, 2007, 11:38:32 am »
I did a search for the 98 TDI engine and found this.

http://parts.autopartsonlinecanada.com/parts/apocanada/quote.jsp?year=1998&product=F4000-51100&application=000360051&part=Alternator&category=F

price is definitely out of my range for just an alternator...  does anyone have one kicking around??? Do I need a clutched alternator for my 1Z TDI????

This is for a 1Z TDI engine!

also, will mk4 alternator's fit???

The AHU and 1Z tdi alternators do not have a clutched pulley from the factory, however it is a nice upgrade. You can use mk4 ALH alternators no problem as well as VR6 alternators, the only difference being the plug for the two wires for the battery light, all are 120 amp. The ALH units have the clutched pulley from the factory, however Bosch rebuilds do not come with a pulley...
I think any 1.9 AAZ alternator will also work, however they only came with 70 or 90 amp outputs.
You should be able to find used ones for well under $100, be sure to check for damaged cases before buying as some butcher may have used a hammer to remove it at one point...

the 120 amp alternator from the VR6 will work, but I believe the pulley has to be swapped out on it.

i'm going to revive this thread for some more input...

i'd like to go with a 120 amp alternator so it will last longer... so expensive though!

this one is from a GTI... will it work with the TDI 1Z bracket???

and this one is expensive!!! so much coin for it, but i really want to get my tdi swap installed and fast! should have the clutched pulley right???
