Which engine is this ?

I am currently looking at a 93 Passat .The vehicle is out of town so I cannot view it .The owner claims it is a 2 liter turbodiesel .I have not heard of these .Is it most likely a 1.9 td or is it a tdi?When did they start making the tdi? The car had gas put in it by mistake .Owner says he drove it for a day or so ,had fuel system drained and car has ran like crap since .Is there likely major damage to the pump or engine ? Thanks

its most likely a 1.9 TD ... unless he has imported it from europe... in which case it MIGHT have been one of those mechanical TDI's they had there... 2.0TD i dunno... the only one i heard of was a 5 cylinder for audi's.
