I was watching an episode of TopGear, and the host was riding around in a new Audi that had push button suspension that used an electromagnet to align iron particles to tighten the suspension. I was wondering if this system was something that could be adapted to other cars, if so what is it called? where can I find it!
thanks everyone

I think it is a mag rail type of system, almost like riding on a magnetic field, they sense a bump and the shock opens up a little and allows for the bump, and then for hard cornering it tightens up like crazy
I seen a Benz with the same system and the loaded the system up and it bounced over a obstruction, like 2 or 3 feet, then cam down with no problem and kept driving......
I like these systems because I can try to design the magnetic piston based on my studies of motor control, magnetics and power and control systems........ Maybe I'll make something for my TR
you ride on a fluid that is full of iron particles and theres a magnet in the middle between 2 chambers, and the stronger the magnet is the siffer the ride... i rememebr a few years back i saw on a tv show about inventors when it was just 2 small syringes put together and the inventor put a normal magnet on it to display how much hard it was to move the fluid from one syringe to the other, at the time he only suggested its use on cars... but i've seen that alot of new cars are coming equipped with it
I have seen the smart suspension system on that merc benz, but it isn't what I was talking about. trev0rbr has it right, with a stronger magnet making for a stiffer ride. Have a gentle setting for every day driving, and then flip on the electromagnet for some afternoon autox. both systems would be amazing in an everyday car. Has anyone seen either system for sale other than in top of the line luxury/sports cars?
man.. the bose suspension system is by far the greatest suspension out there. however for a cheaper means of suspension, yea having the ability to magnetize the fluid to give a stiff ride would be a great compromise.
i would guess that a suspension system from bose would be around $10'000 at the moment???
