Best stock turbo for the aaz engine
« on: March 03, 2007, 11:37:48 am »
Hi guys. I have 5 or 6 vw 1.6 turbo diesel engines lying around all of which have turbo attached. They are varying ages and from jettas golfs and passats i think. Could you tell me which turbo would be best for the aaz engine from the power point of view and which would be the next best.  Thanks Guys

As much as I'm going to sound like an ass for saying this. Search, seriously this topic is brought up once a week, or more.

Thanks for your replies guys... Much appreciated. I had a root around the shed yestertay evening and i have K14s and K24s so i think i'll take your advice and use the K24s. Will i need to use the sump from the 1600 td for the return line??? Read something about that yesterday. I did a search like DVST8R suggested but there are understandably conflicting opinions regarding turbos. Also, I read about using the head from the 1600td pump on the aaz engine due to the aneroid pin. Can i just swap over the complete injector pump??? Sorry if that's a silly question. As always, all replies appreciated. Thanks... Shane

Hi guys and thanks for replies. Am i correct in saying that i only need to take off the 4 very top screws ( slotted screws for a flat screwdriver) and then i can change aneroid pins??? I got a tuning pin from a vendor in Germany. Sorry if it's a silly question  Thanks again... Shane

Yes thats how you do it. Be sure to put the most tapered part of the aneroid pin against the small pin that rides along it.

hi, this is my first post on here! so can the tops be interchanged between a td 1.9 pump and a gtd pump to allow for adjustment? what would be the ideal hybrid pump set up for my 1.9 intercooled td (AAZ) ? i have a AAZ pump on it and a spare tdi pump and a gtd pump as well, the AAZ pump is the type with extra eletrics on for commencment if injection and timing control, not sure what these accually do or when but keen to learn!

ta!
