Hello all. I'm delighted to be part of this club. I have a question that i need some help with. I have a 1991 mk2 golf GTD 1588cc which is a great car and delivers good power. I will be removing the engine and gearbox shortly to re-paint the complete engine bay. I also have a crashed 1994 vw vento 1896cc (aaz engine) at my disposal. I know that both engines push out almost identical power figures but my question is as follows. Which is the best engine to use??? Is one engine more tunable that the other??? Which would deliver the most power after tuning??? What are the best tuning mods to use??? All your help will be very much appreciated guys.
ive got a intercooled jetta Td,engine cobe SB,and a mk1 turbo diesel with the AAZ lump,the aaz is more lively before the turbo than the 1.6,and the AAZ is amazing when modded slightly with a T3 garrett and a ground aneroid pin,i would lean toward the AAZ as they are more modern,lots still around,and they have the steel headgasket which must be a plus,most 1.6's are round the clock by now,there are still a few low mileage AAZ's to be found.

displacement.. the more you have, the better!
if you cant get more displacement, boost comes in

after change from a 1Y (1,9l n/a) to RA (1,6 turbo w/ic) engine in my new Audi 80 i was very disappointed about the torque at low rpms.
now i am going for the best of 2 worlds: 1,9 with garrett T3 turbo, with remanufactured motor & new turbo. pump's gonna be a 10 or 11mm plunger with higher camdisk.

the turbo from the 1.6s seems to work well on the 1.9s.
the 1.9s have more torque, but the 1.6s like to rev. my 1.6 is more fun to drive, but the 1.9 has more sheer power.
either way you can't lose.
I think you should use the 1.6, and send the 1.9 to me.
