Garbage in = garbage out

If you use substandard parts on your conversion, you will have issues.
If you use unclean oil (that is water contaminated, is not filtered, or is too thick) you will have problems.
If you are an idiot, you will have some trouble from that too.
If yo spill, people will come to hate you.
Plastic fittings are bad.
I think thats about it for pitfalls.

In 20+K of grease fueled miles, I've had more problems with aging diesel components than grease problems.
I use about a 50-50 mix of Greasel kit and homebrew stuff, never tried a Greasecar kit.
Before starting, you should know how to swap batteris, and how to prime an engine which has run out of fuel.
I favor leaving the entire OE diesel supply system intact, and adding in a grease fuel system for redundancy.

i have installed over 16 kits in cars from vw mercedes and izuzu, they work great. all of the kits i have done are custom except for one greasecar kit on a mercedes. i drove from NY to CO completely on grease except for my startup and purge times which added to less than 2 gallons of diesel. if you are just learning then get a kit, all of the big names are good and they all work. from there on out go through the forums and get ideas on how to customize your own.

I am running a blend of up to 70% filtered WVO in my '91 300D.  I was going to do the same with my 1.6TD but I am hesitating now because my dad had problems with his IP (87 Jetta TD) after running WVO blend (in Germany).  His car got very hard to start.  He replaced the IP and things were good again for a while and he started having the same problem again.  A German mechanic told him it was because of the oil.  I also bought a '91 Jetta diesel with a leaking IP that had been run on WVO.

I would have thought that since the pumps in the VW and Mercedes were both Bosch, they would have worked equally well with WVO.  What I have seen seems to indicate otherwise though.  I will likely try it with my TD once I have secured an extra pump but until then only straight diesel.   :?

instead of running a blend do it the right way and use a two tank heated system. you wont have problems. veg does eat rubber parts so make sure everything is synthetic. if your seal on your pump starts to go them put in a viton one. its easy...
