check to be sure first, its really easy to tell on a diesel. If there are 2 oil passages on the front of the block its hydro, if there is only one it is solid lifter.

i preferred my '86 solid lifter turbo diesel... it was louder, and it was more powerful.

Here are pics of a buddy's gasket job. He cut a piece of metal then used silicon to seal it. Once it began to set up he coated it with copper gasket sealer along with the gasket. You'll have to scroll down about 5 pics. There are some more pics of the build along with the gasket shots.

wow... he put the turbo in a pretty weird spot... isn't that getting a wee bit close to the brake master cylinder??? very interesting....

yeah i doubt it would hurt anything but it is a weird spot, it works nice there though, i've seen a guy with a crossflow mk3 he used the factory exhaust manifold and just flipped it and made and adaptor but it put it in about the same spot

Whats he using for the second filter for? Another oil filter, or is that his fuel filter?

That's the fuel filter. He just replaced it with a Mann.

Andrew, He ran out of Detroit Diesel Green for the cover. and it gives him an excuse to build it again with bigger valves.

where did he get that paint from? i love it!! i wanted to paint my block something green, but that works much better, is it high temp?

Hello there I am NEW to this forum and I want to say there is tons of good valuble info from some pretty knowledgeable folks.

I have a question and a tip for a 1.9 headgasket upgrade on a 1.6 td, firstly can anyone tell me after the gasket upgrade did your engine start okay in cold temps?

Here's a laugh for you here, I tried putting a TDI headgasket on a 1.6 and it worked but the preheat chamber area has differences which screws up the 1.6 in cold temp starts, the 1.9 gasket looks identical to the 1.6, YES aside from the extra 8-holes which arent an issue for 86 and up but I was just wondering if anyone can confirm any cold weather failures at all with the 1.9 gasket upgrade on the 1.6. I live in a cold climate and EVERYTHING must be in good order especially if you cant plug the bugger in
