Which years ?

I've been trying to search this but I must be not using the right terms.

I need to get a one way clutched alternator pulley from a TDI and put it on my 94 1.9T.  My current alt is a 70 amp. so no air.  Will any pulley bolt on?  Does it have to be from a diesel.  Any and all help is very much appreciated.
Thanks
Out.

Can't comment on which years fit which physically but to your other question:  the diesel altenator is generally higher output than the gasser and has a terminal on it to drive the tach... if you put a gasser alt in your diesel you likely won't have the terminal you need to make the tach work.

I'll clarify.
What I need is the alternator pulley (not the alternator)that is clutched or one way(they started doing this on the TDI's I beleive).  Is the pulley on a gasser cluched like the diesel tdi alts?  and is there difference between pulleys on alternators with different amperages?

don't think there is a clutched pulley that will fit a 70A alternator. The 97-99 TDI pulley (028 903 119AA) will fit the 90 or the 120 amp alternator. All early TDI's only came with manual transmission and auxilliary coolant heater glow plug and the 120A alternator to power them.

The later TDI models use a different part number, and also use a 70 amp alternator on automatic (no coolant glows) and non-AC equipped models. It's possible that the pulley will fit the 70 amp TD alternator. The part number for the '99 up pulley is 038 903 119A.

The crank speed of an idling diesel varies a bit at low engine speeds, it speeds up briefly as the individual cylinders fire and slows when they come up on compression. The spinning alternator has a good deal of inertia and backdrives the crank every time the crank slows. This causes the belt tensioner idler pulley to bounce around and wear out the pivot shaft, shortens the life of the belt and may also contribute to the crank pulley failure so common to 1.9TD's.

With the one-way clutch pulley installed the alternator is unable to backdrive the belt. Combined with a nice straight harmonic balancer, the accessory drive is dead smooth, well worth the effort and money.

Is it only the TDI that came w/the cluched pulley or were there other models like the corrado and other gas powered cars?
Thanks for chiming in here guys I knew you were out there!

The TDI is the only engine that came with the clutched pulley. It's possible the clutched pulley will fit a bosch 70amp alternator but maybe not the valeo that was used on early models? Seems to me I caught hell here once for suggesting that the clutch pulley would fit any 1.9TD alternator...

Do you a bosch or a valeo Andy?

Thanks for the clarification.
I have a bosche and access to a pulley from a corado but now I know that's no good so I will continue my search for an early tdi pulley.  Do these thing wear out?  need to look for anything imparticular?
Thanks again!

Ok I forgot to update this for you other guys wanting to do this and I must say I highly recomend it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased a new cluched pulley from a tdi from VW.  My mech who works for VW during the day went and looked at the one off the corado that I previously mentioned and wouldn't you know it, it's the same one.  he returned the expensive new one and got the used one.
They are all the same part.  So the moral of the story is any Vw clutched pulley is the same and will fit.  I now have a good 14K of trouble free driving since I did this.  I hope this helps someone out.
Out!
Cheers!@
