my 1.6gtd dyno
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:49:38 am »
ok,this his my dyno.
engine was a rebuilt 1.6D converted to TD by adding the td pump, turbo ,blabla.
engine is still stock, just a external oil/air radiator to keep temps down.
KKK24 at 2 bar, stock exhaust with only one muffler,LDA cone reshaped, fuel pump adjusted by me, front mount intercooler.

by timing the pump to 1.05(is stock now),better exhaust(2 or 2.5") and governor what would be the power gains?
i am aiming to 150hp,is it doable? :?:

i liked the result, the engine is strong past 3000 and it dont falls down until 4500(i told to do only to 4500)

Thats impressive. I wonder if PD130 turbo could get the same figures but with the torque at 2000rpm-ish

so you've almost tripled to original HP of the engine? How long have you been running it like this? How is the NA holding up thus far?

the 1.6 is holding fine,no oil or water mixing, everything is ok,just like stock.
next upgrade would be a better exhaust and time the pump to 1.05.
next is to do the governor mod as above 3000 the engine starts tomake less HP...no fuel no HP...

a friend 1.9 did 151HP the same day  8)  but he was smoking a LOT more than i...
i only see smoke before turbo spools up... 8)

200 is a lot of torque, almost hard to believe. 140whp is believable though.

What does your EGT (Pyro) look like? What gear did you run in on the dyno? and do you know the dyno's correction factor?

Anyway, if you up your boost & fuel further and shoot for 150-160whp uncorrected, chances are that your cylinder compression may leak into the coolant ports due to headgasket & head bolts not holding. 3 of us here experienced that problem.

You could give it a try.. but if you get the problem, then your only solution may be to install a 1.9LTD headgasket, install o-rings, and lower compression by enlargening your pre-chambers (thicker headgaskets is not a very efficient method according to some tech articles.. grinding down leafs around the valves on the head deck might be an OK method as it improves airflow too)

Pd130 is easily capable for 180hp and I think it will spool up a lot faster than kkk24 in 1.6L. My friend is building a 1.6TD with it. Aim is just 160hp to keep things safe. We'll see it soon...

What does your EGT (Pyro) look like?

Last I read he didn't have an EGT gauge installed 'cause he couldn't afford one, but he did have a nice stereo, recaro seats, new paint, "smoked turn signals"   , "new leather knob"   , etc, etc, etc... and the printout from a dyno run...  ROTF...

Andrew

-the seats have to put because the older ones were broken and they cost me 50 euros
-nice stereo? a used sony radio and some speakears of a brand that i never heard before...
-paint was a must as the car was treated to replace many spots of rust and had to be painted.although its a crappy paint,it costed 250 euros.
-it didnt have a shift knob so a new one was required.10 euros
-the dyno costed 25 euros.

all the things were "essencial"(minus the dyno) so i dont see the funny or the connection.
a EGT gauge will cost more than 100€ to have and have to pay someone to install it.
for a car that is a daily driver and most times driven by my wife its not a priority.

those number are at the flywhell.
at wheels were 116.4cv.
the dynos in here measure all at the flywheel.

i plan on replace the headgasket as she fails.then a 1.9 one will go in.

in portugal we have tdi 110 hp making +240cv at the flywheel.
the tdis have a lot more potential and reliability...

Sorry for the flywheel/wheel confusion.. 116.4cv at the wheels is very nice considering your mods and it's definitely more believable :)
