In or close to the PNW, no rust, for a TDI swap, gas or diesel is fine. Finders fee!

My friend did one and it is so cool that I have to have one now, he's on his way to Argentina with his wife in his right now, currently in Guatemala somewhere :) He got a decent Westy with bad engine for $200, doubt I'll find that good of a deal, but I have while to look.

  How's your's doing?

I got my ASI camper for $850 with a tossed rod.  It came with a 5-speed tranny.   :D

I'll give you $900 for it!

I doubt I'd be lucky enough to find a 5 speed, my buddy got his 4 speed rebuilt with taller 3rd and 4th gears about 2800 RPM at 65 MPH, drives nice, but the jump between 2nd and 3rd is a touch big, better than 3500 RPM at 60 MPH though.

If you manage to get a nice straight Westy body with a blown motor for less than $1500 you're doing fine.

More than I wanted to hear, but in the ball park. I just started looking and have seen several with fresh rebuilt engines in them, "No, I want it broken!"

I'll check out the Yahoo group!

Too old, I'm hoping for an 83+, but if an aircooled vanagon/westy showed up fro cheap I'd take it.

I did find an 82, http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/275464433.html

But Santa cruz is about 1200 miles from here, she has a guy interested for $1000 right now, and all the Diesel bits would make for an easy AHU install, but 2400 miles is huge and I can't act on it NOW as would be required to get it.

Might be a little pricey for you and I dont know the body condition, but here is a syncro westy in need of saving:

I found that too, actually a pretty good deal from what I've seen on the syncro westy's. AWD would sure be nice, but I wouldn't really need it.
