cold temps & morning starts

-13c shouldn't be a problem not plugged in. Got two here, one's a 1.6 with about 420lbs compression. Car will start down to about -20 although it's a lot happier plugged in. Running 5w40. Cycle the glow plugs a couple of times, shove the clutch in (less drag when you're not turning tranny parts in cold oil) and start it WITHOUT! the cold start lever. Pull it as soon as the car fires. As long as the battery is in good shape, (starter, wires etc.) it should go. Get the battery load tested somewhere, maybe get the starter checked for draw too. Keep the car parkrd out of the wind if possible, or at least with the back of the car to the prevailing wind. Lots of good advice about timing and compression, injection here too. Good luck!
Other car has a 1.9, don't know the compression, but I don't plug this one in at all unless the wind chill is -30 or more.

man if you want to beat cold starts i'll give u a tip...  you can make an old junker start but smoke like hell... get it warm and fire her up...

pull the cold start then adjust the cold start idle speed boost.  raise the idle to about 1500.

that car should start no matter the temp..    and warm up pretty quick too???!!!

sounds like fun ;)

Well.. as an update I managed to get my brakes fixed..... I guess the faster you want them fixed the more you pay.. and the quicker you want them done, the more things someone else will overlook.

long story short. the car has brakes... and good brakes too!!!

I managed to pick up some thinner oil.... (5w30 I THINK, I cant remember...) but it wasn't the rotella T 15w40 I normally get.... just to get me through to the spring.

so far tho, I havent plugged it in, it's been out away from the house and it's fired up okay.

but an oil change could never hurt.
