My Jetta was stolen :(
« on: January 31, 2007, 06:03:06 pm »
Very, very nerve racking day. I went to work (Best Western, I'm a maintenance guy) and then I had to go give a gas car a boost because it was too cold... silly Hondas. Anyways, I went and parked in my normal spot and went on with my day. Halfway through the day I thought to myself "The Toronto police are going to call me any moment and say they found my car." A very strange thought since my car was parked outside, or so I thought. So anyways I finish work and go out to my car to go home, only it's not there. I have the only key for my car and it was in my pocket. I thought that maybe I had parked it on the otherside of the building, or one of my co-workers dragged my car somewhere else as a gag (I never lock my doors).
So I walked around the building in the freezing cold and my car was no where to be seen. Since I work at a hotel cars are occasionally towed so I went to the front desk and asked them if they had towed any cars, no one knew anything about it. So I asked what company they normally use and they said they've never actually towed a car. So right now I'm thinking it was either towed or someone stole my rustbucket 92. Thinking that I might be on crack I went and checked my spot again, nope.
So I'm panicing and ask the front desk for a phone book. I call the first towing company and asked if they had towed a black 92 jetta.
The phone call went a little like this;
Me: Did you tow a black 92 jetta today?
The guy:...uhhh yeah, I think we did. It's at the dealership
Me: Oh, could I have it back?
Him: *** we must have towed the wrong one. Yeah sure, we'll tow it right over.
Me: No, how about you pick me up and drive me to it.
Him: Ok, we'll be right there:
Me: how soon..
*click*
So this massive freightliner diesel faltbed pulls up the the front door of the hotel (I'm smiling on the inside, diesels are cool). So yeah, apparently my black, 92 jetta looks like a green 02 jetta... right.
My car was fine and started up after some struggling (like normal). The guy that drove me over was cool and checked my car out with me and it everything was fine. Good thing too because it wasn't towed on a flatbed ( a wrecker I think it's called) and the back suspension is totally shot.
I'm kind of glad I don't lock my car, who knows if the knob would have dragged my car across town with the ebrake on.

I told my car that that's the only time it'll ever be at the dealership. I beat on it a bit on the drive home, that always makes me feel better.

Dude the powers of observation of the tow truck driver are rather lacking.  That was almost funny except that you got stressed out, glad it all worked out in the end!
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

The tow truck company "stole" it by taking my car without me knowing. They were aiming for a 02, but were about 10 years off. I was very relieved that it all worked out, I should have asked for a fee tow for future use though, but I was just happy to have my car back.
I'm assuming the guy with the 02's car wouldn't start and since he was out of town (his license plate said he was from richmond hill) he tried to have it towed to the dealer to have it fixed.

GUILTY!!!!!!

I have towed the wrong black Jetta.
It was  a few years ago, I worked in an auto shop in some unnamed place.
The boss armed me with a wrrecker, and instructions to tow the black Jetta from the intersection of X and Y to the shop.
I went and picked up the car.
The key left in our drop box didn't work :?:
The plate number didn't match
The VIN was also different
I had the wrong car
We hooked it back on the truck,  and I put it back just about where I had found it.  The correct black Jetta was just around the corner :D
To the best of my knowledge, nobody ever found out.

At least you confused 2 black cars. The wise guy on this call confused a s green one and a black one.

Glad you got the car back man.  :D
